I am fairly new to poetry reading. I was actually not confident about my ability to understand what I read.
But then I started seeing some short forms of poetry here. And I came to realise that poetry comes from the heart of a poet.
That started my love affair with poetry and poet. The passion reached a crescendo and I dared to enter where angels fear to tread. I wrote a few.
All’s well and I continued my love affair with poetry and poet. My poems tested if I get loved and did.
The underlying principle is that poetry comes from the heart.
Then I get concerned when poetry reads sad, suspenseful and remorse. And I get disconnected.
I have a reason to be worrying. Hope everything will be okay
Love the poem, not the poet 😀
Get disconnected…the best thing to do!! 🙂

The heart feels these emotions, so it is reflected in your poetry, that makes it truly genuine. Do try writing poetry. I am sure you will enjoy the experience Kurian!

There is nothing to worry about. Sadness as per me has a true quality about it which happiness do not possess and as per psychology, a saddened mind can concentrate more compared to the happy one. However sadness and happiness are only two aspects of the unified whole, life has even more.

Personally, I agree with you, poetry comes from the heart of the poet. I do not follow the actual rules of poetry. I write what comes to heart and mind. Most of mine is sad in nature but a few are uplifting. I draw on life experiences. The key is just to write what comes. Don’t fight it or struggle with rules. Be you and it will be amazing.

Sometimes when I respond to what seems like a sad writer on the basis of the poem, the writer responds that it was from the past and they are ok now. So not all sad poems represent present time for the writer.
